Short version: My mission is to help people figure out how to make a big splash on the internet so that they can connect with their audience and serve them with their amazing products and services.
Shortly before I left for college, I watched my Dad do a scary thing. He left a top-post in a major corporation to start his own home building company. Mr. “Always Knows What to Do,” took a big leap into the unknown and a “certain life” was now in question. Stay-at-home Mom reinvented herself from housewife to travel agent in her own agency shortly thereafter. My younger brother hardly gave working for someone else a thought and launched himself into his own business and never turned back. The examples were set — hold that thought.
I had my MBA by 22 and began in corporate America in accounting & finance. Then I took a decade-long detour into government, starting with accounting but ending up in management as a Systems Administrator where I created operating manuals and taught hands-on computer classes. The key word there is “taught,” because you see, I had always wanted to be a teacher. Hold that thought too.
Then I made the leap, like my father, mother, and brother before me into entrepreneurship-land. Oh I didn’t get there directly… it was only when I left the security of one of the best pension plans in the country to get retrained as a technical writer and shortly after the economy tanked that I realized I didn’t want to go back to government or corporate life, and that maybe trying out this working-for-yourself thing would be a good idea.
Gratefully I found AssistU and self-actualized as a virtual assistant running a profitable online business for 10 years. I’ve had many fabulous clients over the years, one client 7+ years and counting… During 5 of those years I taught a college class for VAs on how to create a business and marketing plan. (Note the word “taught.”)
As social media transformed the internet world, I got trained and certified as a Social Media Manager by two of the experts in the industry (Andrea Vahl & Phyllis Khare). Then I got more training with Amy Porterfield, Mari Smith, & Dennis Yu. Between working for Ali Brown for 7+ years and being trained by the social media gurus of the day, I’ve earned my stripes.
And now we get back to that word teacher, that profession that I always wanted to become. I realize now that I have been a teacher all along because I make it my business to gain expertise and share it with people. Whether that means consulting with clients on internet marketing and social media strategies, mentoring/coaching emerging virtual assistants, holding webinars to train small business owners on how to grow their business, or creating videos on YouTube to make it way easier for a wide variety of people do technical stuff (especially social media) online.
My mission is to help people figure out how to make a big splash on the internet so that they can connect with their audience and serve them with their amazing products and services.
So how can I help you hit the water with a big cannon ball splash?
